_ A Peaceful and Pastoral Environment

The sounds of buzzing flies are not frequently heard on an organic dairy farm. After all, organic dairy cows are healthier cows, raised in environments that give free rein to the cow to graze on grass that is natural and contaminant-free. Therefore, organic milk is pure nutrition, void of the additives and hormones that can negatively affect the health of humans.

How the Fly Problem is Handled in Some Instances

That said, flies are definitely a nuisance on commercial dairy farms as they are carriers of disease and make a feast of any of the secretions emitted from the poor cow’s mouth or eyes. Plus, cows on commercial dairy farms can be sprayed with insecticides to detract the pests – definitely not an incentive to drink the milk sold in the store.

Not a Prevailing Issue

Fortunately, as stated, organic cows are not subject to the fly problem that assaults commercial dairy cows. Instead of artificial insecticides, some organic farmers use a spray of citronella to get rid of flies. Fewer flies are produced because organic cows are found in lush, green pastures, and flies like to breed or congregate in settings where plants or animals are in poorer heath.

Something to Consider

So, the fly problem is definitely something to consider when buying commercial milk. Not only are the commercial cows sprayed with insecticides to ameliorate the issue, the disease-carrying pests also transport germs that cam impact quality. After all, pasteurization does not kill all the bacteria.

Organic Milk Contains a Good Concentration of Omega 3

It is not surprising then that when scientists examined the milk produced by organic dairy cows—cows accustomed to eating grass that is free of any chemical fertilizers or insecticides, that they found that the organic product contained far more in the way of antioxidants and healthy fatty acids, like Omega 3. Omega 3 fights inflammation and reduces one’s chances of getting heart disease and cancer.

A More Nutritious Product

In addition, organic milk had a greater concentration of Vitamin E and beta carotene. Vitamin E is helpful in reducing the effects of aging and also lowers your chance of getting heart disease. The beta carotene found in organic milk is converted into vitamin A when ingested, and maintains the health of the eyes, skin, and bones. In addition, the nutrient also lowers an individual’s likelihood of developing diabetes.

Organic Milk – A Healthier Choice

Plus, organic milk doesn’t hold the potential for the development of health problems like commercial milk. Commercial cows are fed antibiotics and hormones as well as feed that is treated with chemical fertilizers and pesticides, thereby making organic milk an obviously safer and healthier choice.

Reduce your Risk for Disease

Interestingly though, the amount of organic milk sold is minimal in the U.S. However, heart disease and cancer are still the leading causes of death from disease in the U.S. too, all which underscores the benefits of choosing organic dairy brands.
